Abstract: When digital turbulence is the new normal, vigilant organizations prevail by following three navigation principles. First, the leadership team effectively allocates their scarce attention resources to ensuring a long-run focus. Second, this team adopts a different perspective on speed that emphasizes being ready to act when the time is right, and third, they foster agility by mastering the dynamic capabilities of sensing, seizing and transforming. When these principles are not followed, firms become vulnerable, lose their strategic degrees of freedom, and can only react to events and trends.
