Universities exist to create new knowledge for humanity. Too often, though, new ideas and technologies remain confined to laboratories without the chance to reach their full potential.
The Mack Institute’s research and programs revolve around fostering innovation in large, established organizations. Through our programs focused on the commercialization of university research, we help make Penn more innovative.
Our commercialization workshops help researchers learn to navigate the earliest phases of innovation: how to ideate, validate and test an idea, and evaluate its commercial potential. For students interested in commercializing emerging technologies, the Y-Prize Competition connects students across disciplinary lines and academic levels by challenging teams to propose new practical applications for Penn Engineering technology.
