Abstract: This research project investigates the role of consultants and their “rented capabilities” in the post-acquisition integration process.  As a first objective, we aim to shed light on the role of intermediaries — specifically, consultants — in the growth-by-acquisition process.  Second, we seek to unpack firms’ access and use of rented capabilities and decipher how renting capabilities and the value extracted from them augments the typical build vs. buy decision process.  Our empirical setting focuses on IT integration  during the post-acquisition integration processes of high-technology firms.
